Growing & Building
Transforming into Homesteaders
Both my husband and I came from a background of family farms, but neither one of us grew up on one, nor do we currently live on one.
My husband grew up on two acres nestled on a hill surround by woods on all four sides where he raised steers and pigs for his county fair through 4H. Come fall, he was out hunting for some good venison.

I grew up on an acre a few miles away from the mall and airport, and fortunately just down the road from the family farm. Growing up in the country but that close to the suburbs made me realize I had a unique childhood with reading books in our evergreen pine trees in our backyard with views that other kids wouldn’t see every day.

Fast forward to today. . .
Now, we live on a few acres with backyard chickens and ducks with some crazy woofers who love walks and hunts. Over the years, I’ve learned how to shoot deer, butcher and cook deer, turkey, pheasant, chukar, and backyard meat chickens and ducks.
We keep up the tradition of gardening and preserving our homegrown food, but we added in seed starting indoors growing our own tomatoes, peppers, and cabbages from seed to transplant and produce.
